The Section 4 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been finalized and recieved Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approval. That allows the I-70 improvements to proceed to the next phases of development - design and construction. Currently no funding is available for major I-70 improvements, therefore the timeframe for design and construction is unknown.
The final version of the EIS is available on this Web site (click on DOCUMENTS above).
An EIS is a document that details the known and anticipated impacts of I-70 improvements on the natural, social, economic and man-made environments. The document recommends a preferred alternative for the location and basic configuration of I-70 widening and interchange improvements between Rocheport and Route Z, east of Columbia.
Prior to being finalized, a Draft EIS (DEIS) was distributed, and an official public hearing was held to on February 23, 2005. The official comment period for the document ended on March 28, 2005.
If you have questions or concerns about activities in Section 4, please write, e-mail or call the project hot line at 1-800-590-0066.
